ECONOMICAL CLOSET ORGANIZATION SOLUTIONS
DIY Wooden Shelving
Buying some nice planks of wood to build your own wooden shelving in your closet doesn't cost a fortune. Most boards that would suffice, around 6' long and 18" wide cost around $10-$15 each, depending on the type and finish that you choose. Adding shelves puts you in creative control of deciding how your closet will be organized. Finish out the edges with baseboards or moulding if you want a more professional look.
Professional Closet Organization Results On the Cheap!
Repurpose Tables
Old end tables or bedside tables make great closet additions. They give you storage space underneath your hanging clothes. You can refinish them to match your shelving if you'd like.
Wire Baskets
Wire baskets that attach to the wall or hang from underneath your shelves are great for stashing socks, tote bags, accessories, and more. I have an oversized one that I use as a hamper.
Shoe Storage
A piece of crown moulding attached to the wall can hold high heeled shoes. Dowel rods up the wall, or a ladder, will hold tennis shoes and more. Shoes can be hung in shoe organizer that hangs over the back of the door. Or, you can simply keep shoe boxes and stack them in the front corners of your closet. This keeps them from getting smashed or lost and makes them easy to find when you're in a hurry.
Paint
Paint the inside of your closet with fun colors or designs. This is a great way to inexpensively update the look of your closet without spending a lot of money. Keep an eye out at your local paint or hardware store for paint colors that people have returned. These are often sold on clearance for around $5 per gallon.
Containers
Canvas containers are fairly cheap and can add a lot of color and functionality to your closet. These are great because they don't close! Containers that don't have to be opened or taken out to be used end up being very effective at helping you to stay organized long-term. Anything cumbersome or that takes time to access will be neglected, eventually, and cause clutter to pile up again.
Extra Hanging Rods and Hangers
Hanging rods are very inexpensive. They generally cost between $5 and $10 each. If you have one long one, you can cut it down with a pipe cutter and create smaller hanging bars for dresses, long coats, hats, purses, or whatever doesn't fit with your everyday clothing. Replace all of those flimsy wire hangers from the cleaners with sturdy, stylish Plastic Hangers at OnlyHangers.com. We carry a huge variety of styles and colors at wholesale prices so that you can have your whole closet organized, uniform, and neat for very little money.
