LAUNDRY SCHEDULES FOR BUSY PEOPLE
Keeping up with the laundry is essential, but it can be hard to find the time and energy to do it. It's terrible when you need a school or work uniform, only to discover that it's been hidden in the laundry pile for days. We get tips from parents and busy workers on how they've conquered their laundry with a few simple steps. Timing is everything when it comes to having your clothes ready when you need them. Use these tips to formulate a laundry schedule that works for you.
Laundry Tips and Schedules that Work for You
Make a list or mental note about what you don't like about your laundry situation. Are the clothes always scattered around the house? Do wet clothes produce mold, mildew or musty odors in your hampers and laundry piles? Do the clothes stay in the washer too long causing you to have to start over? Do the clean clothes end up in the dreaded laundry mountain? Once you have your list, you'll be ready to come up with a laundry action plan that solves your problems and saves you time.
A common problem in most households is keeping the dirty laundry in one place. People tend to discard pajamas by the bed, dirty clothes, towels and washcloths in the bathroom, socks in the living room, and dishrags in the kitchen. Clothes can end up scattered everywhere if you don't have a convenient place to put them. Sometimes a couple of extra laundry baskets in the house will make everything run more smoothly.
So let's say that you already have sufficient laundry receptacles, but your family just doesn't use them correctly. You can remedy that problem by placing the basket or hamper in the spot where each family member continually drops their clothes. When we're in a hurry or feeling lazy, we're not going to go way out of our way to put clothes where they belong. It can also be a pain to put clothes into and get clothes out of a hamper with a lid. Lids also keep moisture from escaping. Try a regular laundry basket instead of a cumbersome hamper that only adds an extra step to getting dirty laundry to the washer.
If your rooms are small and you don't have a place to put a laundry basket, try putting a laundry sorter in the hallway for everyone to use. Whites, darks and delicates can easily be divided and accessed by the whole family as they leave their rooms each morning.
Get yourself on a schedule that doesn't take up too much time. Instead of doing all of the laundry on the weekend, put in a load to wash before work. Put it in the dryer when you come home in the afternoon. Fold and put away the laundry after dinner while you watch television or help the kids with homework. When there are only a few clothes to wash, dry, fold and put away each day, it seems like much less of a chore and more of a habit that makes life easy every day.
