Spring Has Sprung! How to Make Spring Cleaning as Easy as a Spring Breeze.
Before you begin, sit down and make yourself a list. Having a check list that you mark off as you go makes things seem to go a lot faster. Giving yourself small goals to accomplish instead of entire rooms to clean top to bottom helps you to stay motivated through grueling tasks and things that seem like too much work.
Categorize each type of cleaning and then break it down from there. Instead of something broad, like "clean bedroom", concentrate on the types of tasks that there will be in there. Dusting, vacuuming underneath dressers and the bed, cleaning light fixtures, touching up paint, putting away laundry, and swapping out your winter wardrobe for your summer wardrobe, is a much better list. This way, if you don't have much time, you can choose something short from the list. When you have more time, you can tackle the bigger jobs.
This way of organizing tasks also will help you to stay motivated, because if you don't particularly feel like cleaning one day, you do something simple. Sit down with your magazines and cut out the articles you want to read later and the recipes that you want to try. You'll end up with one folder in your file cabinet instead of a giant pile of dusty old magazines that collect dust. If you have good in-tact magazines, donate them to your doctor's office.
When it's time to organize your closet, simply take everything out. Clean it, being careful to remove all dust. As you put things back in, decide whether you really want to keep them or not. If you need to store your winter clothes outside of your closet, use a rolling garment rack so that you can leave coats and suits hanging for the summer. Make sure that everything is in a breathable garment bag and you won't have to worry about musty odors. Cedar hangers repel pests and absorb moisture to protect your wardrobe while it's in storage.
